Danny to Race the Texas Nationwide Series Race

Irmo, SC — Danny Efland announced today that he will race in the Nationwide series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday April 13th.

“I raced my own car under Johnny Davis Motor Sports # 4 at Daytona and finished my career best of 13th place. Johnny called yesterday and offered me the ride in his car in Texas,” said Danny, “Our goal is to keep the #4 car in the top 30 in points so it will remain locked in. This is a good opportunity for me. Johnny and his team have made great strides in their performance and I have big expectations for this race. Until yesterday I had thought my ext race would be Darlington in my own car.”

Danny and Johnny hope to attract an advertising partner for the race.

Danny Post Career Best Finish at Daytona

Irmo, SC — After receiving my Engineering degree from the University of South Carolina in December it was time to get started on our Nationwide car for Daytona. My Dad and I built the car and Johnny Davis lent us an older generation used motor.  Jeremy Clements father re-built the motor for us and with the help of many friends we were ready.

With fifty cars vieing for forty three spots, I was blessed to have a locked in position.  We did not need to worry about qualifying trim and could concentrate on race set up.

The weather was great in Daytona and pre-race Technical Inspection came off without a hitch.  This is something I always worry about because we are by far NASCAR’s smallest team and we do not have a lot of at track capability to re-work the car.

During practice, I knew that I would have to have drafting help to keep up.  Our strategy was to lay back and run with a few cars so we would not be in the pack when  the ‘big one’ happened and then to go for it at the end.  My father is my spotter and he and I actually crew chief the car during the race.  We use a Mooresville based crew school as an over the wall pit crew.

The initial strategy was wrong from the beginning.  I could not keep up as soon as I was out of the lead pack and quickly got lapped.  Fortunately 2 quick cautions gave us the lap back.  The lesson was learned! I had to stay in the lead pack the rest of the race.

At times we would pass 6-8 cars in one lap and move up to around 15th and the next lap be back to 24th.   To avoid one wreck I was forced down pit road wide open.

The race ended with the ‘big one’.  Dad and I had seen it coming and elected to hold back.  We avoided the carnage and came home a personal best – 13th.  The winner had been 11th and I was 18th on the last re-start, so I guess you could say our conservative stance might have cost us but we did not tear up our race car which could have easily happened if we had forced the issue.  Unlike the well funded teams we would be out of business if we lost the car.

I am very proud of our guys and all the people who helped us and look forward to competing again.

See you at the races!

Efland to Race Season Opener at Daytona

Irmo, SC — The DRIVE4COPD 300 NASCAR Nationwide race February 25th at Daytona will be Danny Efland’s first race as a newly minted Engineer. Danny has run an average of ten races a year during the last four years as a full time college student, including three at Daytona. Now he hopes to make racing an occupation.

Danny’s family team, Danny Efland Racing, will partner with Johnny Davis and his new team at Daytona running a Chevy Impala #4. The car will be locked into the field so Danny will concentrate on the race setup. Danny said, “I am very excited to be working with Johnny Davis again. He has years of experience in this series.”

Sponsorship for the race should be announced soon.

Danny Graduates from University of South Carolina

Irmo, SC — NASCAR Nationwide driver Danny Efland earned his engineering degree on Monday from the University of South Carolina. Now Ryan Newman is not the only engineer/driver in NASCAR! “It has been a real challenge,” said Danny, “I have raced an average of 10 times a year and still attended school full time. At times I have had to fly home between races such as happened between California and Las Vegas last year, to attend 3 days of class while the team stayed out west. I hope now that racing will become full time.

Danny wishes to thank his professors and the staff at USC for cooperating on missed assignments and exam makeups due to racing conflicts.

Danny continued, “As racing becomes more sophisticated I have seen advantages engineering has given me in understanding and communicating with crew chiefs and race engineers. I hope to use this degree to further my ambitions towards a life long racing career.”

Rear End Problems Results in 33rd at Michigan

Irmo, SC — Danny Efland ran Michigan this past weekend for Go Green Racing in their #39 Ford Mustang. Archie St. Hillaire, owner of Go Green, called at the last minute and offered Danny the ride. Obviously Danny was thrilled that a team the caliber of Go Green had him in their sights.

All went well in practice and qualifying. Danny put the car solidly in the field in 26th position starting side by side with Dale Jr.’s #7 car.

Everything went according to plan with Danny running as high as 14th until about half way when on a re-start something gave up in the rear end. After several green flag pit stops costing a number of laps, the team realized they would just have to ride the race out. Danny came home 33rd with no physical damage to the car.

Danny’s next race will be the mid season night race at Daytona on Friday July 1st. He will be back behind the wheel of his family’s #07 Chevy Impala sponsored by C3i Sports.

Danny Post 23rd Place Finish After Gambling at Dover

Irmo, SC — The racetrack at Dover, Deleware is an intersting place, to say the least. They combine a huge gambling casino with a horse track inside the NASCAR Track. The place is spic and span and shiny! The track is one mile long, concrete and very high banked.

Dover was my second effort in the C3i Sports Ford Mustang for Go Green Racing. It was the end of practice before we began to get a handle on the car but we were looking forward to qualifying.

Saturday dawned rainy and cool. Qualifying was washed out and most of us did not think we would even race. But after a great NASCAR track drying effort we were going at it only an hour or so behind schedule. We settled in and just ran our own race while staying out of other peoples wrecks.

On a caution after a rain delay with about 60 laps to go we gambled. The Go Green Mustang was in 20th place and one lap down. More importantly we were in the Lucky Dog position to get that lap back if there was another caution. We thought we had fuel to go to lap 185.

Somtimes the gamble does not pay off. There were no more cautions until the very end of the race and we ran out of gas on lap 183.

After losing a number of laps trying to get fuel we came home a respectable 23rd with a race car in one piece. If the race was re-run tomorrow I would be for making the same decision again but in this game you never know what the result will be.

It is really great to drive a car the caliber Archie St. Hillaire and his Go Green team put on the track and I look forward to driving for them in Charlotte in two week!

On a side note, I was invited to a NASCAR themed family night at the Dover Air Force Base. We ate pizza, signed autographs and had a wonderful time with a great bunch of people that are dedicated to the protection of our Country.

See you at the races!

Danny Post Career Best Finish at Darlington

Irmo, SC — Danny Efland drove the #39 Go Green Racing Ford Mustang to a 16th place finish Friday night in Darlington, South Carolina. Danny told us about it.After driving my family owned car to 21st place at Talladega last month, Go Green Racing owner Archie St. Hilaire called and asked my interest in driving for him at Darlington. Of course I had to answer professionally but all I could think of was the opportunity to run a car superior to my own at what I think of as my home track. The 26th place finish last year was something to be proud of, but the chance in a Go Green car was what my career needed. Within a few hours, Kevin Yates, CEO of C3i Sports was on board as a sponsor and the deal was made.

Archie has a long history of owning and sponsoring race cars and last year started his own NASCAR Nationwide team. He gets some help from Roush and Ford and has put together an experienced group of guys. He could well become the next big time owner in NASCAR.

After a couple of trips to their shop in Mooresville for seat fitting my next duty was to show up in Darlington with my helmet and HANS device – he had the rest covered. It was quite a change for me. I usually have to set up the car, load it, get it past tech inspection at the track, put together a pit crew and co-crew chief the car from the drivers seat! Not so with Go Green Racing. They had a real crew chief and crew….. not to mention an over the wall crew that could compete with most of the best.

We started 24th after qualifying was rained out. The crew chief had a battle plan consisting of a conservative first half while he adjusted on the car to go for it at the end with our best set of tires

At Darlington you can never say a race is uneventful. Lady Luck and good spotting enabled me to survive three wrecks right in front of me including the ‘big one’. Finally we had the final set of tires, plenty of fuel and were headed to the finish.

The results were a personal best for me and Go Green Racing and a car with the customary ‘Darlington Stripe’. I hate to scrape off the right side, but as Darrell Waltrip said on TV, “if you don’t have a Darlington Stripe you are not getting everything there is out of the car”.

A race car driver always wants to go faster and finish better and the ‘what ifs’ keep me awake but we had a great weekend on what is arguably the toughest track in NASCAR and I will forever owe a debt of gratitude to Archie, his Go Green crew and C3i Sports.

After the race, Archie asked me to drive for him at Dover this coming weekend. It will be great to be back with Go Green Racing

See ya at the races!
